Call it unfair to the crustaceous world or not but any Haitian football supporter will tell you that crabs cannot play football. Needless to say that very few Haitians expect the players that the tourist-turned-coach Patrice Neveu called up to face Costa Rica at the Stade Sylvio Cator on September 2 will be able to cause any trouble to the visitors.

In Haitian football jargon, a crab is a bad football player, specially one who cannot shoot. Before you declare it politically incorrect to call some of our players crabs consider this: Kervens Belfort has not scored a goal in 19 games (11 with his club, 8 with the national team) yet he is the main striker of the team that will represent Haiti vs Costa Rica, one of the best CONCACAF team. If you look at the so-called pre-list, Kervens is one of only 3 strikers in the group of 6 players the coach listed in that position. (Please, disregard Patrice Neveu. He does not know a thing about the players and their football positions! He earns his 18000 euros per month job because he is a Frenchman).

Enough with the diplomacy, let’s get back to the crab business.

Reginald Goreux is a good player at the prestigious Belgian club Standard Liege but at the  national team he is a huge liability costing the team a goal almost every other game.

Johnny Placide is he good or not? Nobody knows. He makes great saves and he allows stupid goals.

Kim Jaggy is technically not a bad player but the Switzerland-born player has hinted at retiring to transition to a coaching career. Who can blame him with so many teammates below his level? The Swiss is 34 and has no business being part of a Haitian team that should be in full transitioning mode after the disastrous Copa America and trailing Costa Rica, Panama, and Jamaica in its World Cup Qualifying group.

Max Hilaire, 30, and Kevin Lafrance, 26, both French citizens, should not have been selected at all considering the large number of younger local players who would better fit in a true rebuilding program. These players’ level was exposed in the past 5 games. It is hard to come up with an argument supportive of those players considering their age and Haiti’s impossible match to survive its world cup group.

Soni Mustivar is another big meme in the national team. If the small Frenchman is a valuable player at Sporting Kansas in the MLS, in the Haitian national team he is a failure. Often played as an attacking midfielder, the player has little to show in the offensive department. No goals, no assists, and not even a single strike or good pass that is worth mentioning.

Donald Guerrier is quickly becoming a non-factor in the national team like many of his teammates. Maybe, being crab is contagious. The former Club America player started his career at the national team with flying stars! He scored versus mighty Spain and made quite a splash in the Polish first division. However, since Donald has become a superstar in his own small world that is as big as his imagination he has also become a regular failure like his other teammates.

Kervens Belfort, oh no, not him again!  Kervens is what people have in mind when they say crab. He is simply not good enough to be in the national team. A striker strikes and scores. Kervens does not do those things.

The players in bold in the list below were all members of the team we saw at the Copa America. Besides, Genevois, Mechack, Norde, Nazon, and maybe Etienne all of them should be discarded to make room for new and younger talents.
