Fighting his way back to the welterweight division elite, former titlist Andre Berto will face American Shawn Porter in a fight that can reset the winner’s career onto the right path while relegating the loser to the gatekeeper rank.

Porter, 29, of Las Vegas, and Berto, 33, of Winter Haven, Florida, have both held welterweight world titles — Berto doing so twice — and both want to win another in boxing’s deepest weight division. Saturday’s winner will earn a mandatory shot at unified world titleholder Keith Thurman.

Berto is one of a number of top Haitian fighters who have won world titles in the past few years. Currently, only Stevenson Adonis has retained his belts while newcomer Erickson Lubin is on hot pursuit of an opportunity to join the club.

Eventhough Shawn Porter is ranked higher than Andre Berto this will be a very competitive fight as both fighters are hard hitters and neither is known for a strong defense. Both guys have been engaged in entertaining bouts with Berto having once to fight courageously with a dislocated shoulder. Therefore, a knock-out is probably on the menu tonight.
