For nearly 4 years Haiti Sports had become the voice and spotlight of Haitian athletes in the English-speaking Haitian diaspora. It had promoted the ascension of young Haitians footballers at home and abroad and revived the career of others. Haiti Sports also successfully brought a full awareness to activities of great Haitian athletes in world  sports such as Polo, NFL, Baseball, Basket Ball, Boxing, and many other disciplines. However, Haiti Sports had also been a strong advocate for the local development of athletes and their empowerment to proudly represent the country.

Haiti Sports was created as the initial phase of a program to encourage and celebrate the successes of Haitian athletes and to promote a stronger bond between athletes and supporters at home and abroad. Unfortunately, most initiatives were met by hostility and suspicion from various associations and entities within the country whose administrations are not used to be challenged to aspire to higher goals.

The current sport situation is rather deplorable. For years, the country's football association deliberately bypass local football players to promote exclusively the ones from abroad while the Olympic Committee simply rely on anyone from abroad who can call himself an athlete while completely ignoring the need to prepare local athletes to represent the country in world tournaments. The various Haitian governments who come and go have all fall for the lies that those associations brand as progress and blindly fund their fantasy of super athletes who can never be realized when relying solely on athletes from abroad who are not skilled enough to represent their foreign homelands.

While neighboring countries like Jamaica thrive in Tracks and Fields, Haiti has not come close to win even a bronze medal in the discipline since Sylvio Cator almost a 100 years ago despite the presence of a so-called Olympic Committee whose sole purpose is to just show up in every Olympic and World Athletic Games! In fact, the committee has not brought a single medal since its existence! And the same people have been in charge for decades. This trend has become a new normal for other sport administrations that find it just too easy to get free money from the government while rejecting all responsibilities to actually prepare good athletes within the country.

Sport is a strong development tool that can steer Haitian youths from dangerous and unhealthy life choices and teach them disciplines, endurance, resilience, leadership, and teamwork. The paramount reward for the local athletes is the honor to represent their country and the glory of competing against the best on the international arenas. Therefore, it has been the firm belief of everyone at Haiti Sports that the systematic replacement of local athletes by less skilled ones from abroad defeats the very purpose of funding and organizing sports activities in the country. We hope other sport media will continue to raise their voice and adopt new strategies to bring awareness to the need for a new approach in Haitian sports.

On this last note, Haiti Sports wishes its visitors a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2018.
